Author Garnet Thompson on Opening Yourself Up to Dreams and Pursuing them with Focus and Persistence
Garnet Thompson, the empowering author of 20/20 Vision Dreams, was raised by his grandparents after his maternal mother opted to migrate to Canada in search of a better life.
Absorbing life's most important lessons from his community, as Thompson grew up, he began jotting down his dreams and future goals on a notepad and later noticed them successfully come into fruition.
While on vacation with his children, Thompson identified a technique to achieving one's dreams. Encouraging his children to create a list of 100 aspirations over several days, Thompson's children, eager to succeed, successfully transformed their list of 100 dreams into a reality proving that dreams do come true. This drove him to create 20/20 Vision Dreams, an interactive book and journal on embracing your dreams and pursuing them with perseverance and focus no matter life's obstacles.
According to Thompson, the number one thing holding people back from successfully turning their dreams into a reality is "not feeling worthy, coupled with a deeply felt fear of criticism." Many believe the objective is not worth the shame or failure, resulting in people sticking to what they know and living comfortably. However, we know great things take place outside one's place of comfort, right?
Although getting uncomfortable can be one of life's most daunting feelings, it would be undoubtedly devastating not to live the life of one's dreams. The greatest thing is that you can begin by writing your list in hopes of pursuing your dreams today.
Does Thompson believe that you need to be specific about your desired dream/goal followed by your 'why? He sure does. Outlined in 20/20 Vision Dreams, Thompson urges you to think about what drives you and then determines how you are going to pursue the desired outcome.
The next critical step is setting a goal due date; without one, there is a risk of never starting or taking the required steps ahead. Along the road, it becomes necessary to glance back once in a while to assess your progress and learn from the path you have walked, which may make the remaining section of the journey less difficult, or at the very least less daunting.
Remember, nothing great comes easy. According to Thompson, the most challenging part of pursuing your worthwhile dreams is the "middle". The "middle" which Thompson describes as the timeframe approximately halfway of achieving your goal often gets more mentally challenging. Yes, you've made significant progress yet at times, the end feels so far.
In Thompson's book 20/20 Vision Dreams, he advises his readers to continue to concentrate, take one tiny step forward at a time and frequently use affirmations. By repeating "I have come too far to quit!" for example, a common affirmation used by Thompson, you are powerfully releasing yourself from any negativity, worry or fear.

When you repeat affirmations over and over again, they begin to take command of your thoughts, gradually changing your pattern of thinking and, finally, with consistent action transforming your life.
"Whether it was the fear of criticism, fear of failure or fear of success, they all had the impact of obscuring my vision and at-times paralyzed me from taking action
on my dreams."
Thompson, who continues to demand of himself the courage to act and push through the curtain of fear, would choose a positive attitude, integrity and persistence if he had to select three traits to accomplish his dreams.
From identifying your ambitions to setting goals to accomplish your dreams, Thompson's interactive book, '20/20 Vision Dreams,' may have you living a fulfilled life with tenacity and remaining focused no matter what life throws at you.
