In late 2019, Matt and Andrea Campbell's heart sank as their son Brook was diagnosed with acute liver failure after noticing that Brooks' eyes and skin looked yellow, a sign of jaundice.

Disqualified as a donor due to blood clotting disorder, Matt was not an eligible match leaving Andrea, however, she was expecting. Urgently needing a transplant in a matter of days, Andrea’s younger brother, Grant, spontaneously flew up from Texas and volunteered to see if he could be a successful donor for his nephew.

"If he would not have received a transplant, he would have died," Andrea said on TODAY. "You're in like fight-or-flight mode. And we were very much like, whatever needs to be done, let's do it."

During this time, Grant himself had been going through a tough time. “I started having suicidal thoughts and thought about taking my own life, ” Grant recalls. "I'm just so grateful that I didn't, because 10 months later, little Brooks needed me to be there. And I say all the time he saved my life,” Grant says of his nephew. The tests proved he was a match, and Brooks underwent successful 13-hour surgery saving his life.
