Pam Pinay: This incredible designer's path has been empowering. The PamPinay brand was established as a social project in March 2021, at the height of the Covid-19 pandemic, by two Filipina artists living in Europe. The demand for Filipino women weavers and seamstresses was met by Pamela Gotangco, a multi-awarded visual artist based in Switzerland, and Christian Belaro, a graphic fashion designer based in England.

Moreover, PamPinay is a line of high-calibre apparel exclusively featuring Filipino craftsmanship seeking to advance social business, environmental responsibility, and ethical branding. To give local artisans a means of support, the collection's materials included weaving from different indigenous communities in the Philippines.

"When the global pandemic crippled world economies, I was thinking of ways my art could be part of the solution that the pandemic presented for women in the economically challenged areas of the Philippines," recalls Pamela Gotangco. She adds, "And for Christian Belaro, a year into the pandemic, it had become essential to help those in need.

When stringent travel restrictions were put in place, a collaboration was created online. In May 2021, the initial design was created, and a month later it was made.
