Incredible: Teen Saves Best Friend's Life Just 24 hours After Taking CPR Course

With two rescue breaths and 30 compressions, 16-year-old Torri'ell Norwood saved her best friend, A’zarria Simmons', life just a day after completing a basic life-saving course at Lakewood High School’s Athletic Lifestyle Management Academy.

Whilst driving three friends home in St. Petersburg, Florida, another driver slammed into Norwood from her left which sent her car careening.

"We crashed in someone's yard and

I hit the tree,"

Norwood said.

Luckily, two of her passengers were left unhurt managing to safely remove themselves from the vehicle, however, Simmons had hit her head on the rear passenger window resulting in life-threatening injuries.

As a result of the impact crushing her door, Norwood climbed out of the window, rescuing Simmons who was trapped in the car, unresponsive.

Unable to check her friend's pulse, the teen began implementing CPR techniques she learned just a day before.

"I never would have thought that I would be the one, out of all the students in my class to have to perform it on someone," Norwood said.

“A lot of people started to gather around to see what was happening. That’s when I checked her pulse on her neck. I put my head against her chest, and I didn’t really hear anything.

So that’s when I just started doing CPR on her.” Norwood continued via CNN

Proud of her student's performance, Norwood's Instructor, Erika Miller, stated that most of her students never have to use their training until they are training to be in the medical field.

The incident has only made Norwood and Simmons' bond stronger with both teens intending to have careers in the medical field in the future.

“She will always help any way she can, to help anybody… Even if it wasn’t me, it was someone else and she knew she could do something to help, she would do it.

So I wasn’t really shocked about that.” A’zarria Simmons via CNN

CPR is one of the most important life skills we can learn, however, one we hope we’ll never have to use.
