“It Makes Me Feel Like a Better Person": Musician Gunna Opens Free Store at Former School

Collaborating with Goodr, the Atlanta-based nonprofit organisation working to combat hunger, Grammy-nominated Musician Gunna has opened a free grocery and clothing store inside his former Atlanta middle school.

Following the city of South Fulton, Georgia declaring Sept. 16 as Gunna Day, the musician decided what's better than to celebrate by giving back to his community.

Over 900 students and their families will now have access to free nutritious food, snacks, toiletries, shoes, clothing and more through Gunna's Drip Closet, an exclusive grocery and clothing store where items are replenished weekly, thanks to Gunna and Goodr's founder Jasmine Crowe.

“These are things I said I was gonna do when I got in a position to do it, so I just gotta follow that,” said the musician as he saw the project unveiled.

“He’s providing a way of life for these families and this is legendary,” Jasmine Crowe, Goodr's founder said of Gunna. “I don’t think anything like this has been done before in the city of Atlanta.”

Further, Mayor Bill Edwards noted Gunna’s charitable efforts through his Great Giveaway Foundation as well as his successful career as "efforts to serve the greater good, by hosting free grocery stores in the community and providing over $100,000 in gift cards to families during the pandemic."

“It just makes me feel like a better person,” Gunna told Atlanta news CBS46. “It makes me feel like I’m doing what needs to be done for my community.”

Tweeting that families can use the Goodr App or website to request food while students can shop for their families whenever needed, Crowe continued by saying, "this is a dream come true. I’ll never forget today and I am so excited to see the results this access will bring. I have so many people to thank and my heart is full.”
